Saturday, Aug 22, 2009 is our next cooking class and we're calling it Pesto Party!

Join us from 10:00-1:00 for a great time in the kitchen and learn how easy pesto is to prepare. You will soon be wanting to grow your own basil for your own use. We will gather fresh basil then meet in the café’s kitchen for a demonstration of 2 different pesto recipes using basil and parsley and 1 recipe for a pesto vinaigrette. Next we will enjoy a delicious summer meal of tortellini with pesto and a garden salad in the café’s dining room. Each participant will take home their own container of pesto and recipes. The cost of the class is $20.00 per person. Reservations and prepayment are required by August 21st. This class will fill quickly as our space is limited so don’t delay making your reservations. Many requests for our naturally grown vegetables have been coming in and they are finally starting to produce enough for you to pick for only $12.00 to fill a basket. It’s the same size basket that we furnish for you to cut lavender for those of you that have been here before and will hold a sizeable amount of vegetables. We have available: yellow squash, purple hull peas, cucumbers and okra. Sorry no tomatoes, they just didn’t do well this year. Come early when it’s a little cooler. Recipes using these vegetables will be available in the Gift Shop.

We’ll have a great time celebrating the beginning of Autumn. We will have vendors with everything from antiques and collectables, candles, jewelry, art, home canned goods and lots, lots, more.

The pumpkins will be here for sale and plenty of flowers for picking. The entertainment is still in the works but stay tuned for details.

There were over 2000 visitors to the May Lavender Festival and we are making plans for an even bigger turn out this fall.
